My Summer Edit 2021

With a promised heatwave on the way as we venture into August, we are beginning to reach the peak of summer style. Summer fashion is meant to be bold, courageous, and colourful, as the sun dawns the sky casting a golden glow, its citizens step out of their comfort zone and into swirls of patterns, mirroring the bright season. It’s always exciting to see what trends will appear each year, what looks models in magazines, celebrities and influencers will wear and reflecting upon these I have picked up a few new looks which I cannot wait to bring out again next year. It is important to be aware that trends come and go, so be weary of this and invest in pieces that you will still love in a few years’ time.

A Pop of Colour

One of my favourite looks this summer is a bright coloured blazer that is guaranteed to spice up any outfit. They are also super stylish and versatile as you can pair them with a dress, jeans, as part of a matching suit or if you’re feeling cheeky with nothing underneath for a true girl boss vibe. Because of the variety of ways to wear blazers it can make any outfit look brand new. I personally am a fan of the oversized, slouchy look, so I tend to buy mine a few sizes up; however, it is completely up to you, and if you are wanting to stand out this August a colourful one piece is bound to give you a pop of boldness and confidence.

Linen Love

Linen has been a popular choice for summer due to its lightweight feel and in fact a staple I think everyone needs in their wardrobe is a white linen shirt. These are easy to style with denim shorts or by the poolside with a bikini. The linen look is also a step up from the classic white shirt, as the texture gives off more of a relaxed vibe. Linen trousers are also perfect for the warmer months for those cloudy days or summer evenings when you need a layer, plus they are super comfy and in fashion with a wide-leg design.

Tennis Takeover

We can see that sporty looks are slowing making their way into fashion trends. This is apparent by the tennis skirt, which we have seen worn time and time again over the last year. It seems that everyone is after them and rightly so, as the mini pleated skirt is shown to be flattering on many different body types. I recommend pairing this fit with a matching crop top, a light cardigan, white sneakers and a sports visor for an athletic look.

The Homemade Touch

Crochet has been particularly popular this year with people supporting small businesses and their homemade designs. However, you can also see this look on many high street shops such as Urban Outfits, which have produced many crochet sweater vests and dresses. Crochet may seem like the wrong material for the hot summer months; however, it isn’t as thick as it may seem, proving it to be softly figure hugging and the perfect coverup for the beach.

Beaded Jewellery

I have seen a recent emerge in people wearing beaded necklaces and bracelets. I love adding colourful jewellery to brighten any outfit and I also think that it adds an element of playfulness to an ensemble which is reminiscent of childhood jewellery making. This is definitely something which I can tell is going to be a short fad trend, as for most people it is just a bit of fun; although, even after it goes out of fashion, I believe I will continue to wear colourful necklaces as it brings me joy.

Kitty Kat

These have made a big comeback this year, having dipped in and out of fashion in the past. Lots of brands have been releasing these in many different colours, as people begin to leave their high heels at the bottom of their wardrobe, collecting dust, deciding to reach for a more comfortable kitten heel to give them a bit of height and a slender look. An outfit with these that I have been loving is pairing the same colour accessories to go with them to switch up basic fits like a white dress.

Tote Heaven

This is the only bag you need all summer for a casual beach look. They are ideal for any occasion as the tote allows you to fit inside all of your daily needs and I think they are a super cute accessory to pair with fits, especially tennis skirts as mentioned above or with your beach bikini outfit.
